This May BirchBox review is a step up from last month's less than amazing box. Even though this box can have some real highs and lows, I can't help but get excited to get my BirchBox every month. There are a couple of items I am pretty excited about and a perfume sample I'm not super thrilled with. I'm afraid that my BirchBox views this month may be colored by the other $10 sub's (Ipsy) best month ever, so I am trying to just evaluate BB for itself in this BirchBox review.

| Runa tea bag sample box: This is a "Lifestyle Extra," four tea bags made from Guayusa leaves. This tea has more antioxidants than green tea! |

| Fabulous by Isaac Mizrahi: Mizrahi's first scent. Mandarin, jasmine, and a touch of vanilla. BirchBox always sends the samples with the atomizers, which is so much better than the ones where the whole thing can accidentally be dumped at once. This is a nice scent, but I have so many perfume samples piled up that I was kind of hoping I didn't get any more for a while. |

| Cargo Water Resistant Blush: (.08 oz) In the shade "Ibiza." This is my favorite item of the box! It's a great color and I look forward to trying this for the summer poolside days since it's water resistant. |

Juice Beauty Green Apple Peel Sensitive (.25 fl oz): This is a peel that has fruit-derived hydroxy acids for skin exfoliation and brightening. I've had this product before and I love the way it makes the skin feel. Since this is a once a week treatment, the sample will last for at least three or four uses. |

The BirchBox review is always fun for me because it's such a dice roll: You genuinely never know if you'll have a spectacular box or a box that is, well, less than awesome. BirchBox has a really big benefit in their points system: By reviewing the items in your bag each month (very short reviews, usually 5 items) you will be awarded 50 points. That gives you $5 per month to spend in the BirchBox store, where they have a huge variety of great merchandise including full sizes of all the items they send out.

I ended my subscription with Birchbox after receiving ghastly boxes every month. If I'd ever had a box approaching the quality of the one you review here I might have hung on. They did ask me to sign up again and, when I mentioned the dreaded perfume samples, they responded that it's possible to opt out of them altogether. I also suggested that everyone receive the same box, as there is always a huge discrepancy in the value/quality of the boxes being sent out. They declined. Do you think bloggers get better boxes?
ReplyDeleteHi, I do understand what you're saying with BB: The variations can be really huge. I truly don't think bloggers get better boxes, at least not my experience - I had some pretty bad boxes in the past for example. I really think that I've gotten lucky with some good boxes and I hit the right profile tweak. I made my profile different sometime around last Dec. or Nov, and it's paid off. I altered it to put myself in the highest income bracket and made creams as my splurge item since I wanted to try some pricey moisturizers, etc. Since then I have mainly had some pretty nice boxes! I do need to opt out of perfumes I've got more than enough at this point. Sorry you got such bad boxes and I hope if you give it another try things will improve!
DeleteI joined last May so I have been a subscriber for a year now with Birchbox. Truly, my boxes were awful until last month when I made one alteration to my profile: my income. Now when Birchbox sends me those "look at items in your past boxes" emails, all the past boxes shown fit the new profile and are all boxes I would have been thrilled with.
ReplyDeleteYou can't completely opt out of perfume, you can just say that you would like no more than 6 samples per year. Hopefully the minor tweaks I made won't destroy the luck I've been having these two months!
I'll bet that income tweak makes a big difference, it did for me! Would love to hear the results. :)
